Our story
Before there was a ministry, there was a man who believed these children mattered.
Ekadu Moses, the founder of Mark of Hope International, grew up in Uganda during a civil war. After losing both of his parents, he was raised by his grandmother, a widow who cared for orphaned children. Through his own childhood, Ekadu experienced the pain, trauma, and danger of life on the streets.
At 19, Ekadu began taking manual labor jobs—hauling concrete, digging latrines, cleaning toilets, and doing whatever work he could find. But instead of keeping his wages for himself, he would use what he earned to find children living on the streets, buy them a hot meal, sit with them, and share the Gospel.
Many people in the community questioned why he continued. Some told him these children were a waste of his time and told him to take care of himself. But Ekadu refused to give up.
“These children matter. They are precious to me, and they are precious to God.”
For 11 years, Ekadu faithfully continued this work. During that time, he planted a church, became a pastor, married, and started a family. He also began bringing children off the streets into his own home, caring for them as his own.
2017
A Step of Faith
In 2017, Ekadu felt the Lord calling him into full-time ministry. He left his day jobs and trusted God to provide for the children and the work He had given him. After three days of prayer and fasting, a man named Mark Amoss contacted Ekadu through Facebook.

“Brother, I know I don’t know you, but the Lord told me to help you. Here is $60. Go buy your kids school supplies.”
That $60 marked the beginning of what would become Mark of Hope International. From there, God continued bringing people alongside the ministry. Churches, families, donors, pastors, and volunteers began partnering with the work—many sharing that they felt the Lord leading them to give.
From One Man to a Growing Ministry
What began with one man caring for children on the streets has grown into a ministry reaching communities throughout the region.

As the people of Soroti watched Ekadu remain faithful through hardship and opposition, they began to see the work differently. What began as one man’s obedience became a beacon of hope in the region.
A milestone · 2019
Heritage House
“Build Me an orphanage in Uganda.”
In 2019, the Lord spoke those words to Pastor Kevin Martin. Kevin connected with Ekadu, and together they began construction on Heritage House, the first Mark of Hope International building.
What began with a word from the Lord and a step of obedience became a home where orphaned and vulnerable children could experience safety, family, education, and the love of Christ.
Looking ahead
Our vision is bigger than a building.
We envision a place where orphaned and vulnerable children can find a home, receive an education, encounter Jesus, and be equipped for their future.
Our goal is not simply to provide a home and a future for children who desperately need one. We want to build a ministry whose impact reaches far beyond ourselves—far beyond Soroti, and beyond Uganda.
